I love mason jars. I know everyone loves mason jars right now, but that's okay, I love them anyway. I've been using them for years to store buttons and ribbon and dry beans, and we used them at our wedding as flower vases with lace tied around the top. They are just so lovely. Here are some fantastic things on Etsy right now that are mason jar-related:
A mason jar stamp! How adorable. From SugarSkull7, who makes all sorts of hand-carved stamps.
I've seen several tutorials lately on how to make mason jars into soap dispensers. That would be pretty neat. These are from Tickled Pink.
These are also adorable. I love those little hearts. From mud & twig. (If you're giving away some sort of treat this fall, she also has ones with pumpkins! And there are also other things: cucumbers, grapes and bees, among the rest.)
These organic, hand-printed towels from madder root would match our kitchen chairs perfectly.

I wish I had a deck so I could have these in my life ALL THE TIME. I know we could put them inside, where they would be equally adorable, but there's something about mason jar lanterns and lights outside that I love. These are from sweet tea clothing co.
Do any of you use mason jars for anything?

I love mason jars. They are so versatile. I use them for storage at my desk/sewing table. Great way to display items, like buttons.
ReplyDeleteI use them as drinking glasses. They are very sturdy and fit well in the hand.
ReplyDeleteI know! They are so good for all sorts of things. :)
ReplyDeleteI love love love mason jars, and I too hate that everyone loves them as well, but I just cannot help myself!
ReplyDeleteI use them to store my pasta, dried beans, granola, pretty much any kind of interesting textured food.
ReplyDeleteI find they are great for storing spices and what not. The larger ones are great for giving layered cookie, cake or bread mixes as gifts.
ReplyDeleteI use them to stash potpourri all around my house. Cheap and adorable!
ReplyDeleteLove the soap dispensers! I've been looking for something bigger, and I certainly have plenty of mason jars. Not to mention that I'll bet these would be easy to refill!!
ReplyDeleteUse them instead of plastics to store food in fridge, especially liquids like soup or chili, but also great for limes/lemons, onions, garlic, etc...
ReplyDeleteI have my loose buttons sorted by color in my vintage jars, then I get to enjoy their beauty all the time.
Cotton ball and q-tip storage, tea light lanterns, water bottles for car trips, so many uses!
I have a bunch of Patron XO bottles that I want to try this with :)))
ReplyDeletepatron bottles make beautiful flower vases for outdoor or cocktail parties.
Deletei had a bunch of broken outdoor solar lights they were just missing the tube at the bottom, i glued the top of the solar light to the jar and put them around our sitting area out side, gorgeous lighting
ReplyDeleteI love that idea! can't wait to try that with my old solar lights. :)
Deletei HAVE A LONG STRING OF SMALL COLORFUL SOLAR LIGHTING HUNG ON MY FENCE. I WONDERED IF I COULD DETACH THEM FROM THE SOLAR PANEL AND IF THEY WOULD STILL WORK. IS THAT WHAT YOU DID? PLEASE EXPLAIN...THANK YOU!
DeleteI don't actually know! This is where I found them: http://www.etsy.com/listing/75604649/mason-jar-strand-with-lights?ref=sr_gallery_39&ga_search_query=mason+jar+lantern&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_ship_to=US&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade
DeleteI actually use them for canning..pickles, pickled peppes, salsa, relish and sauce among other things!
ReplyDeletepremixed cocktails, fill and close the jars, place a few dozen in a big metal bucket full of ice for an outdoor party or cocktail party. No more making drinks the whole time, and missing half the party! Your guest can drink right from the jar!
ReplyDeleteI don't think we have mason jars in the UK, I really need to find an alternative and get to work being creative eh! Lots of great ideas...
ReplyDeleteI divide a big thing of yogurt into 4 smaller mason jars for lunches
ReplyDeleteEvery wedding this past year and to come seems to have used, or will be using, Mason jars in some way or another. Burlap, too.
ReplyDeleteMy mason jars are in the basement in a box. I should get them out and use them now that I don't do canning any more. There are some good ideas here.
ReplyDeleteI ALSO HAVE MANY USES FOR MASON JARS BUT I THINK MY FAVORITE IS STORING GRAINS AND PASTAS THAT ARE COLORFUL...ALSO I DRY HERBS EACH FALL AND STORE THEM IN SMALL MASON JARS FOR THE WINTER.
